Photographic Narrative of a Stranger

For my first assignment for Photographic Narrative, I attended and photographed a course from the Osher Lifelong Institute and the Penn State Tea Institute about the history of tea. The below shots focus on the protagonist of my narrative, Ryan, who led the class through a short lecture, tea tasting, and extensive question and answer sections.

As a State College native, Ryan quickly connected with the OLLI moderator in attendance, his elementary school gym teacher. He, as well as two other Tea Institute volunteers worked with the learners to learn more about types of tea pots, teas (the plants), and the history of tea’s global spread.

We also drank a lot of tea.

As a narrative, Ryan’s story of the Tea Institute is about his experiences with his friends on campus, finding a comfortable space to explore interesting topics.
